January CY365 Photo Challenge List | 2015

January2015Image

January. January 2015. Can you believe it? I feel like i’m always caught by surprise when a new year comes around. It’s not possible for the previous year to have gone by that quickly. January means a cleansing to me. It’s a time to start anew. To start fresh. To make new goals or resolutions. To think about how you want this next year to go. I like it. I don’t like the dreariness of January where I live, so I choose to look at the month as a fresh start, coming up with my goals and visions for the year. January 2015 CY365 Photo Challenge List

Katrina and the CY365 Team have already been busy thinking about the new year and helping improve your photography skills. They’ve changed up some prompts and made it as flexible as you want it to be! Whether you want to follow the prompts every day or just grab a photo each week, we’ve got it ready for you.

Click here for January’s list. Katrina has highlighted a prompt each week. They kick off the THEME for each week, beginning with January 4-11’s theme of reflecting on YOU.  The following week is all about the color white. It’s going to be great!

For those who want a  weekly challenge, you can choose to follow those bolded prompts. For those who are taking a daily picture, you can do both! This is going to be all up to you & how you’ve decided to capture your every day! I’m excited to see how this takes off and I can’t wait to see the pictures you take!

Join us on January 1st for the annual CaptureYour365 New Year’s Day Celebration.

Follow three quick steps to join the challenge!

Each Sunday we introduce a theme for the week. Take one theme photo each week or go with the daily prompts for a full 365. Go sequential if that’s your thing or pick one that inspires you. Go out on your own if you need to. There is no wrong way to use the prompts!

And really…if you need to skip a prompt…then skip it! It’s your project. Make it your own!

And here are this month’s repeating prompts. Each month we repeat some prompt ideas. Wondering why?  We talk about them on the CY365 Podcast.

  • Create A Self Portrait  | January 4
  • Create A Macro Photo | January 12
  • Capture Where You Stand | January 6
  • Create A Photo With Your Phone | January 20
  • Color | January 11
  • Composition | January 18

  1. I am new to photography, too, and didn’t realize how I’d enjoy macro photography. I’m continually challenged by the creative elements of composition and ideas, and I think I most look forward to macro shots I can create that actually turn out decently! Loving the challenge, the emails with podcasts, and look forward to a class soon.

  2. I’m presently overseas on holidays. And have not the tools to upload photos at present. But I have been taking lots of photos and feel inspired to commit to a year long challenge. Really want to improve my skills and think this will be a good prompt to keep practicing.

  3. The topics for January captures are quite appropriate. I am excited that I ran across the list as I am trying to fill my winter days wth my new FujiFilm XT1 camera. Looking forward to sharing images. My daily photos (I do my best) can be seen at http://www.NeusseGallery.com. I would love to hear from everyone! Happy New Year!

  4. Laurence

I’m new to this challenge this year. I will use those prompts to take pictures that I will use to make scrapbook pages. Sometimes I’m out of ideas, so those will help me reflect a little more than just taking pictures for the pretex of taking some.

  5. Create a Macro Photo was the category that I got excited about. I continue to be challenged as I experiment with macro photos. Thanks!

  6. carol ann

I failed this past year trying to do a photo a day, so it’s on my list of new year’s resolutions. Perhaps better for me is doing the theme a week idea. Great one, Katrina!

From the list for January, I think I’m liking the snowflake prompt. Haven’t seen any snow so far but I’m anxious to give my new macro lens a good workout! Love frost images!

  7. Looking forward to pop of color!!!

  8. I’m excited about the entire challenge. I’ve never done a photo challenge before. Fingers crossed I can keep up!

  9. First Taste! If I can hold off on giving food to my 5 month old till then, I will use this day. (he’ll be 6 months on the 25, which is when the doctor says we can start…. But he’s pretty ready now.)

  10. Anita Garcia

Im so excited to be here! this is my first time ever doing something like this!!! 😛 I checked out the list and I’m wondering how you capture some of those things!! I guess I will learn!! 🙂

  11. Anneke Verweij

I’m most excited about one done. Because that would mean that I actually kept up and finished a month worth of beautiful (hopefully) pictures and memories to keep forever 🙂

  12. I’m looking forward to the Good Morning 2015, day 1 and beginning this 365 daily challenge!

  13. Gabrielle Brown

Am so very very excited to get started on a daily 365 photo challenge! Who knows what I will create? The website should be up and running in January and d365 will be a page! Would love to win that class pass.

  14. I am so excited to start thinking about 2015! What do I think of as a big challenge coming up? “A reflection of me” since I have struggled with the self portraits in 2014.

  15. Kristen Collins

I’m excited about Good Morninng 2015! I tried to jump in to 365 half way through the year, then let my work get in the way, and now I’m excited to start this new year with a fresh page, lens, and excitement for capturing the moment.

  16. I’m most looking forward to the snowflake prompt. I can’t wait to see all the beautiful different snowflakes that everyone takes. Hopefully we’ll have some snow by then. I’m also excited about the new weekly themes. All the makings of a fun new year. Thanks Katrina and the creative team for all the motivation and all the inspiration from the community as well. Happy 2015!

  17. I am a fairly new mom with an all almost two year old. I have also lost 75 pounds since her birth. I’m excited to document our life together as it changes

  18. I have been looking for a photography challenge for 2015 and a friend pointed me here. I’m hoping to improve my “eye” and my overall skills using my regular and digital camera, and my phone. I’m particularly drawn to Days 3, 4, 18 & 25, as those capture my intentions for the new year, but can’t wait to see what I can do with the rest of the month. Thank you for these outstanding prompts, this is going to be fun!

  19. I’m most drawn to the week of prompts that go with Resolve, particularly nourish and move. This may be because I’ll be doing more of both of these. Thanks for the inspiration.

  20. Looking forward to all of them but in particular, day 1, Good Morning 2015 and also day 18 Balance!! This is going to be a fun year and can’t wait to see my skills grow. Thanks!

  21. The Capture Where You Stand prompt has my attention. Thanks for offering up these great ideas!

  22. I’m looking forward to Day 14. I will be starting chemotherapy sometime around that date and it won’t hurt to be reminded to Be Positive.

  23. I am excited by the prompt for the 31st “one done” – that will be a good day to celebrate. 🙂

  24. Ann Carlson

Looking forward to getting back on the photography wagon in 2015! The weekly prompts look good to me; I have done a 52week project in the past and I have not reached the point where I think I can do a 365. I appreciate all the work the gals do over here at CY365 do and their help/support/encouragement.
I look forward to seeing all the “white” prompted shots in the galleries.

  25. I am drawn to macro and where I stand. I haven’t decided whether to do the 365 or 52. I have not had much success sustaining a daily photo project. I am going to work on this being the year to seek out opportunities throughout the day for receiving photographs.

  26. Catherine

I’m looking forward to the resolve prompt…it goes perfect with the new year, new beginnings & new goals 🙂

  27. Teresa Lowe

I am most excited about snow! Ready to see some white stuff. My goal is to post my 365 project to the gallery this year instead of just to my blog. I think I say that every year!!

  28. Jennifer Little

I can’t believe I am ready to start my 4th full year! Thank you, Katrina and gang, for all the inspiration and ideas to look at our lives differently! <3

  29. Probably the Where I Stand challenge. Trying to think of some interesting places to be!

  30. michelle t

This is my first time. I’m limited in my computer skills and I don’t know how to upload photos so I won’t be sharing with the community, but will be quietly on the sidelines. I’m interested in the macro and composition ideas, and want to learn more about that. Thanks also for a chance to win. I’m excited too for all the great inspiration. Thanks. Michelle t

  31. I’m most excited about incorporating this project into my journal project that I’m doing for my first year as a 40-year old. I do best with prompts and reminders to complete daily projects like this.

  32. Balance, something I need to work on in 2015.

  33. The one that would be most natural me is play. But I keep coming back to multifaceted. So many possibilities.

I’m really excited to do this. And appreciate that you say no pressure. You all look to be a super supportive bunch! My first 365!!!

  34. Christina G

Favorite prompt is 4. A reflection of me. I don’t get in front of the camera too much so looking forward to the challenge! Thanks.

    Christina.

  35. I am most looking forward to the new prompt: Composition. I love the idea, but it will definitely challenge me to expand my photography skills!

  36. I want to see where every is in “where I stand”!

  37. Karen Peterson

I love the prompt “One done” so many possibilities with that one and I have a month to ponder them all 😉

  38. I’m looking foward to start my first 365 next January 1st. As we are in summer it will be such a challenge to capture a snowflake, but I know I can do it! Happy New Year to the community. Love, Romina

  39. For me it has to be Jan.3rd as my oldest little girl turns 8! So open possibilities seems perfect to try to capture it as my little girl is a year older and how I choice to capture it. I am very excited for the new year! Thanks for the chance.

  40. White. It’s my signature color and it’s informing my photography so much lately.

  41. Dawn Jones

I’m looking forward to photographing colors and completing the 4 prompts a month.

  42. I have taken a picture nearly everyday since discovering your site in August 2013. As 2015 begins, I am facing new challenges as my husband and I make new plans to deal with his recent lymphoma diagnosis. I am holding onto the “Be positive” prompt. Thanks for all you do. Cyndi

  43. I participated last year until April when my son had major health complications. I am excited to begin anew in 2015. I did struggle with being too literal with the prompts at times so this class may help me think outside the box.

  44. I’m excited about the white week!!

  45. I’m most excited about the Balance weekly theme and the Play daily prompt. I’m a pretty serious person so I’m thinking if I have a little more play in my life maybe it will be easier to get closer to balance haha! I think both of these prompts have a lot of room for interpretation. It will be interesting to see what everyone comes up with.

  46. I love the idea of monthly self portraits. I fell off the 365 wagon in August this year so may rather focus on 52 more meaningful photos. But i need to be more fully represented in my photos and scrapbookes, so a monthly shot of me will be a great start.

  47. ilona van soest

I am tickled about the weekly theme, so much possibilities! I look forward to the play prompt. So much options, that I am curious what my potd will become. Best wishes everyone for the New Year.

  48. Looking forward to the weekly themed ideas. This year I’m going to do a weekly pic, rather than daily, but also mini projects along the way. Looks like great fun! 🙂

  49. The 365 has been a bit intimating for me so with the New Year I have decided that I would focus on 52 (1 per week) concentrating on the bold prompts. If I manage more then that is just a bonus for 2015.

  50. Snowflake……I live in Atlanta. I hope I have to create a paper one!

  51. It seems that Composition is a new monthly repeat right? I am excited about ALL of it but this one intrigues me!! Thanks!

  52. I am looking forward to the resolve prompt. I start a lot of projects and never get all of them done. Resolve is my word for 2015 and one of my resolves is to start fewer projects. That way when I don’t get some of them done I won’t feel so bad. LOL

  53. i love the color prompts because it makes me more observant and the gallery just pops with that color.

  54. Libby Wiers

Mostly I just want to keep up for longer this year! But I am most interested in the Create a Self Portrait prompt – hardly ever in our photos, so learning to do better ‘selfies’ would be great.

  55. Sheila McFarlane

Reflections of me sounds right up my alley. I’ve been into taking photos that are reflections.

  56. I have a new idea for the monthly “Where I Stand” prompt so I am looking forward to that one.

  57. I’m excited about exploring macro more!

  58. BettyLou Koffel

Meal or Play? sounds challenging. I don’t have a child around who plays with their food. I’m going to have to think about this one for awhile.

  59. Jennifer Akins

All of the bolded prompts (if I have to pick just one: white). I have been telling myself I want to use my Nikon more, and the bolded prompts will be the days I use a “real” camera, instead of relying on only my iPhone. I’m hoping to increase the use of my camera (& the skills) throughout the year. 2014 was year 1, and 99% of the pix were cellphone. I’m grateful I used my camera daily. Now, time to improve skills!

  60. I need to take more self portraits and include myself in more family photos. Typical problem for those of us always behind the camera and documenting our families.

  61. Heather K

I am looking forward to “a snowflake”. I’ve seen some tutorials online and I am dying to try them out!! But, we have no snow!!!!

  62. Melisa M.

I, too, am most looking forward to the self portrait prompt. I started a healthy lifestyle in October, have lost 15 lbs. so far, and I am anxious to record the changes throughout the next year!

  63. Staci Knowlton

Most excited for Pop of Color!

  64. i’m also looking forward to the self portrait. I hope to think of a creative way to do that (besides a phone selfie, lol).

  65. Elizabeth McCallum

I am most looking forward to Create a Self Portrait because I hate having my photo taken.

  66. I am most excited about the reflections of me challenge. Self portraits are the hardest for me so I am looking forward to the challenge!!
