Behind the Lens | Britanee Walker

Each month we introduce you to a talented photographer from the CY365 Community.  Today’s featured photographer has a very special place in my heart and in the CY365 Community. I was lucky to meet her at a live event two years ago. She asked me one “simple” question and a connection was made! She joined the CY365 Team last year as my virtual assistant. That title doesn’t really quite capture just how valuable she is to CY365. She attempts to keep me organized, on task, and asks THE BEST questions EVER. And, she takes BEAUTIFUL photos. You’ll feel her warmth and see her smile in every one of her photos!  -Katrina

Meet Britanee Walker.

What sparked your interest in photography?

I’ve always taken pictures. When I had my first daughter 6 years ago, I knew I needed to be better at documenting her life and our family life. That got me started on digital scrapbooking, which transitioned me into photography. I, naturally, wanted better pictures. Then, I purchased my first dSLR in 2011.

Describe a moment when photography clicked for you.

I taught myself to move off Auto. There was one thing that I felt like I couldn’t understand or master, and that was the sharp focus. I took a class from Katrina in Las Vegas in 2012 and asked her for a few tips. Her response changed my photography for good. That was my exact moment!

How do you decide when to take a photo?

I think I take too many pictures (& over share, too) but I’m ok with that. I’ve always wished I had more pictures of my childhood. Because I scrapbook, I know there are times the camera WILL be out (birthdays, holidays, events, etc) but other times, I’m constantly asking myself if I want to remember this for years to come. That answer is usually YES.

What is your biggest wish for your photography this year?

To upgrade! I outgrew my camera the moment I learned Manual,  so I want to upgrade. I push my camera to it’s limit every time I use it, or at least that’s how it feels! My husband and I have goals to meet in order for this to happen, and I’m positive this year will be the year.

What have you gained from the CY365 community?

I’m still very much a shy member of the community, but I love the togetherness that comes from having the same hobby or passion as everyone else. The questions that are asked and enthusiastically answered, the support everyone gives each other, and the constant presence from Katrina makes this community thrive.
