He’s been a polliwog since July. No moving up to the next class yet.

He loves the water. He loves lessons. He just can’t make that little 40 pound body float through the water.

He’s not discouraged now. Although he has been. And he might be when this class is over.

He’ll get it.

He tells us his sport is swimming.

He’s learning a good lesson in perseverance.

  1. Both my kids took lessons from 3 months (mommy & me) until one was five and one was seven. The big hurdle for them was learning to climb out of the pool. I distinctly remember “elbow, elbow, tummy, knee, knee” (they were littler than Ian is though). Thanks for reminding me of this phase; I loved it.

What a great sport for him to pick; I’ll have to let Bailey know.

  2. My daughter had the exact same problem. She had so much trouble floating because she has absolutely zero excess body fat. But she was a great swimmer. She finally did get to move up (I think they took pity on her since she really never did get the floating to work for her :-) ) A couple of years later she still loves swimming in the summer but has lost interest in lessons and the indoor pool. She is now into rock-climbing where her slight but strong frame is a big asset for climbing. She has amazing upper body strength.
