One Year Ago Today | Celebrate Today
Posted by Katrina Kennedy on Mar 4, 2012 in 365, Blog | 6 commentsOne year ago today I launched Capture Your 365.
I pushed the button and held my breath.
I had no idea what would happen. Would anyone stop by? Would anyone share photos or read the blog posts?
And then you arrived. You all began to share your photos, download the prompt lists, and leave comments on posts.
You have exceeded my expectations. I love the community you have helped create. I love that I’ve grown to know you through your the photos and through the questions you’ve shared.
Through the past 365 days I’ve watched your kids grow. I’ve shared meals with you. I’ve visited your living room during the holidays and I’ve seen the photos you didn’t love on the days when the light escaped before you picked up your camera. I’ve watched you battle difficult moments in life. And I’ve celebrated with you.
In the last year I added a fabulous Creative Team to help me out and today I launched Your Life Captured Through The Lens right here in its new home! What a year. What an amazing time.
Thank you.
Thank you for helping to create our community.
I’ve learned a few things in the last year and I’ve been reminded of some very important things about myself.
I love photography. I love the process. I love connecting with subjects. I love challenging my own knowledge.
But more than anything, I love helping others.
I love hearing when someone discovers they can adjust their aperture or use a slow shutter speed. I love when someone grasps the Exposure Triangle.
I love when someone learns they can take a great photo.
I love when someone realizes that less in a frame can truly create more.
I love knowing that I’ve helped in the smallest way. I love knowing that my help has opened up doors of opportunity and fun for others.
I love knowing that people are photographing their moments, their memories, their lives in ways that provide happiness.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
What an absolute joy it has been. I’m looking forward to many more days capturing your 365.
Let’s CELEBRATE!
Each week in March we will focus our lenses on a different theme.
Week Number 1 – Composition March 4-10
In the first week of our celebration we will take a close look at composition. We’ll explore what makes a great photo great. We’ll look at things you can do with any camera to achieve better results.
Week Number 2 – Food and Beverage March 11-17
We’ve all got to eat. In week number three of our celebration we’ll take a look at photographing food and drink! Photographing food is one of my favorite strings to do.
Week Number 3 – Legos March 18-25
People are not always cooperative. Taking a photo a day means branching out sometimes. Legos can be a great source of inspiration. They’re cooperative and won’t complain about posing AGAIN.
In our second week of celebration we’ll take a look at Legos. We’ll bring some inside. We’ll take some outside. What is it about these little pieces of plastic that compel so many of us to carry them in our pockets and photograph them in different situations? We’ll explore that too!
Week Number 4 – Colors and Crayons March 26-31
Crayons come in array of colors from whatever to whatever. We can line them up. Draw with them. Show them up close or from a distance. They provide flexibility and fun. Not a crayon lover? You can always look for color!
You can expect to see blog posts related to our prompts, special “looking back” features, and a few fun prizes along the way.
I’m so glad you are here! It’s going to be a great year!

Congratulations on one year!!! Looking forward to the fun themes this month!
Am I misreading the list and/or this post? I thought week 2 was food and week 3 was Lego? No matter which order it’s all in, I’m really enjoying this community and learning more, not just about photography, but also about myself….
Thank you!
Oops Suzanne! You’ve got it right. Once again proving I’m human
All fixed.
Thank you for creating this amazing community of wonderfully talented women. Visiting CY365 has become part of my daily routine and I miss all of you when life preoccupies me.
I love the inspiration from you, Katrina, and from all those who contribute to the gallery. Congratulations on your anniversary!
Happy 1st Birthday and congrats. A wonderful exercise in thinking outside the box. Here’s to many more!
Happy Anniversary!
